Perform comprehensive assessments and develop evidence-informed chronic pain treatment plans, recognizing that social determinants of health & previous conditions (e.g., trauma, abuse, addiction) may contribute to the chronic pain syndrome.
Safely prescribe and manage analgesics, including opioids for chronic pain, identifying all resources available in the community (including local allied health professionals, non-pharmocolgic medical approaches) to develop an effective local approach to the management of chronic pain that minimizes addiction potential, enhances treatment & promotes safety.
Describe the bio/psycho/social/spiritual complexities of chronic pain and of providing care to patients with chronic pain, and how to guide patients and their providers to both medical and non-medical options.
Participation in the program grants you access to a number of supportive resources.
Throughout our operations (since 2018), we have provided support to case presenters in the form of inter-disciplinary case recommendations. These case recommendations are sent out in a package and not only contain recommendations but extra tools and resources. These tools and resources have and continue to be coalesced into a resource bank for chronic pain primary care, tailored to Northern Ontario. Participation grants you access to this clinical resource bank.
The ability to bring your own case for inter-disciplinary discussion and recommendations, centred around both you and your client’s goals. Make off with your own set of case recommendations and additional tools tailored to you and your client!
Access to the slides of didactic presentations prior to each session. Additionally, access to the videos of each talk for later viewing, which are posted after each session.

The “learn by doing” approach employed by the ECHO model™ has shown tremendous success in providing best-practice specialty care and reducing health disparities.
A series of videoconferences with an interprofessional specialist team consist of:
a short lecture led by the ‘hub’, community provider or invited expert
de-identified patient cases shared by participants with the specialist team and each other to generate case recommendations
